Willie Kachaka - Managing Consultant

 

 

 

 

Willie Kachaka is a Development Practitioner, Statistician and M&E Expert with over 20 years of experience in 5 countries specializing in the field of Development Planning, Research and Monitoring and Evaluation. He is currently studying for a PhD in Development Studies at University of Malawi, He holds a Master of Science in Development Economics and a Graduate Diploma in Economics and Statistics from University of Sussex, UK, a Bachelor of Social Science in Economics, Statistics and Demography from University of Malawi Chancellor College.
Willie Kachaka has experience in Strategic Planning, Project Cycle Management and Result Oriented Monitoring of development projects this includes; logical framework, results-based management, monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment, financial management and Procurement management of donor funded projects.  Willie has excellent advocacy and communication skills in Statistics, working on Development of the Malawi National Statistical System Strategic Plan, the development of the Global Fund Concept Note for Integrated Community Case management (ICCM) for Malaria Programme. Willie worked on sampling of the Demographic and Health Surveys, Malawi National Micronutrient Surveys, National Health Strategy and Costing, Integrated Household Expenditure Surveys, Public Expenditure Tracking Survey (PETS) in Education , Health and Agriculture, field research on implementation of projects, development of instruction and assessment materials for primary schools, National Health Accounts (NHA), Statistics for MDG Indicators (UNDP), District health Information System (DHIS2) a web-based routine system, Routine Data Quality Assessment Tools (RDQA) developed by USAID, He has experience in Policy management and monitoring, Poverty and vulnerability analysis and monitoring.  Willie has Sectorial experience in the areas of education, agriculture, Public health, Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) and HIV/ADS services and impact. Willie has excellent research, sampling and survey design skills, data collection methods and analysis using Qualitative and Quantitative methods, report writing and dissemination of results and identifying policy indicators. Knowledge of STATA, SPSS, CS-Pro, Nvivo, R and Epinfo, Access, and database software.
His current research interests are in Public Policy Analysis, Social Protection, Local Governance and Decentralised Development Planning, Urban Governance, Urban Poverty and Action for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One of his recent flagship contributions is development of the MGDS III M&E Framework and theory of change and SDG Baseline Report for Malawi.
Some of his flagship assignments on baselines evaluations and M&E include; Malawi SDG Reports, Development of the MGDS III M&E Framework and SDG Baseline Report for Malawi; Streamlining targeting mechanisms for social cash programmes in Malawi (2015) in collaboration with Oxford Policy Management; Beneficiary Verification and Physical Audit of the LDF Social Cash Transfer Beneficiaries, Programme evaluation of USAID-SSDI programme in Malawi; District Monitoring and Verification of MOH and CHAM- Service Level Agreements (SLA); Development of the M&E Manual for the Sustainable Development Programme, Ministry of Agriculture Irrigation and water development /IFAD; Midterm Evaluation of Community Case Management of childhood illnesses on coverage of appropriate treatment of childhood illnesses in Mulanje district in Malawi: A mid-term evaluation for Save the Children Malawi.

Joel Mkumbwa - Business Development and Operations Director. Joel Mkumbwa holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Business Administration, a Master in Business Administration (MBA as well as an Advanced Diploma in Applied Microfinance. He is a seasoned microfinance and business development practitioner. He has extensive experience in Strategic Planning, individual and group lending methodologies, market research in microfinance, delinquency management, processes designing, and general operations management. He has more than 7 years’ experience in lending and microfinance operations, underpinned with 4 years in senior and strategic management position. He has worked as a Credit/ Loan Officer, Regional Microfinance Manager, Business Development Manager, Credit Risk Manager, and Operations Manager. He has facilitated training workshops in Group and Individual business management skills, Lending Methodologies, Loan Portfolio Audit Management, Process Mapping, Supervisory Skills, and Risk Management. His  recent studies include a “ The Action Aid Malawi CSP Baseline Survey 2012-2017, 2013; The Farmers Satisfaction Study with the Rural Livelihoods Economic Enhancement programme (RLEEP), 2013; He has also carried out Beneficiary Impact Assessment in microfinance, 2006.

Lucy Horea, Gender and Social Development Expert. Lucy Horea holds an MSc in Social Development Planning and Management as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences in Sociology. She has a rich experience in project management, monitoring and evaluation, facilitation and training, and consultancy with a diverse set of projects and donors in Malawi in including UNICEF, EU, Global Fund ADB, World Bank, USAID, and European Union/EDF, DFID and UNDP. She is an experienced gender analyst, facilitator, trainer and researcher with excellent analytical and problem solving skills. She is an effective builder and maintainer of networks and partnerships; an efficient and outcome-oriented team builder with good communication skills. She has been involved in the management and implementation of a number of assignments including baselines, mid-term review and final evaluation of projects and programs. Training programme design, delivery, and evaluation using experiential learning adult based principles, Project planning and Management. Development of Gendered data collection using qualitative and quantitative methods, gender data analysis and interpretation; Community mobilisation for sustainable development using participatory methodologies, excellent communication and writing skills. She has also more than ten years of working experience in the field of monitoring and evaluation with designing, implementing and assessing programmes. Joy Omar Karim is an economist and researcher with a Master’s Degree in Policy Economics from Williams College, Centre for Development Economics (MA, USA).  She is specialized in designing evaluation studies and monitoring and evaluation systems in the Malawian context. She has Strong knowledge of data collection methods and analysis techniques. Joy has made a number of strides in her career which includes:  Being key in the drafting of the country’s medium term strategy MGDS III (2017). Joy has participated in evaluating several and developed the M&E Plan and frameworks for various organisations.

 

Richard Jack Kajombo - Monitoring & Evaluation Expert

 

 

 

 

Richard Jack Kajombo is food and nutrition security Expert. He has a vast experience in impact evaluation, food security and vulnerability assessment, Household Economy Approach food security baseline development and market analysis obtained through working with a number of institutions including SADC Regional Vulnerability Analysis and Assessment in Botswana, Ministry of Economic Planning and Development / MVAC in Malawi, University of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa and Food and Nutrition Security in Central Africa in South Africa and National Statistics Office in Malawi. He obtained his PhD in Food Security at African Centre for Food Security, University of KwaZulu Natal.  He has a Master of Science in Development and Resource Economics obtained from Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB). He has worked in a number of countries establishing Household Economy Approach baselines and conducting Outcome Forecast Analysis in South Africa, Namibia and Malawi. He has served as a Food Security Project Coordinator at University of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa, Principal Economist at Ministry of Economic Planning and Development in Malawi and as a Statistician at National Statistics Office in Malawi.  He obtained a Norad's Programme for Master Studies (NOMA) fellowship award to pursue a Master of Science in Development and Resource Economics in Norway (2006 – 2008). His research interests are economics, poverty, food security, social protection programing, agricultural extension and adoption of technology. He also worked on an end of project evaluation for the 2015 Flood Emergency Response programme by SOS CV Malawi (2016).

Fyawupi Mwafongo is a Disaster, Climate Change & Resilience Expert. Fyawupi Mwafongo holds a Master of Science in Environment and Development (with Distinction) from Trinity College, University of Dublin, Ireland;  a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Administration (With Credit) from the University of Malawi as well as a Graduate Certificate in Humanitarian Programme Leadership (with distinction) from Deakin University, Australia. He has experience applied in planning, designing and coordinating large national-scale emergency response and humanitarian programmes. These include the Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee (MVAC) Food Insecurity Response Programme and national emergency response programme to rapid onset disasters such as the 2015 Flood disaster response. He has vast applied experience in disaster and vulnerability assessments as focal person for disaster and vulnerability assessments in the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) and a member of the MVAC as a the World Bank group on Post Disaster Needs Assessments.. He also has experience in designing training programmes evaluation methodologies and the development of M&E systems for disaster risk reduction and humanitarian programmes. He worked on the joint monitoring and Independent Evaluation of the World Food Programme Humanitarian Response Programme and the INGO Consortium.
